President Trump attacked Attorney General Jeff Sessions and the Justice Department on Monday in connection with the indictments of two GOP congressmen on corruption charges, saying they could hurt the Republican Party in the midterm elections.
The President's tweets about various indictments brought against California Rep. Duncan Hunter who misused more than $250,000 in campaign funds and then threw his wife under the bus, and Chris Collins of NY who was indicted on insider trading and wire fraud. Both are creating problems for the GOP, given how hard it would be to replace the already-renominated incumbents on the ballots, and in Trump's estimation, Sessions should have prevented that.
Trump went on Twitter on Sunday afternoon to blame Attorney General Jeff Sessions for the timing of the indictments of Reps.
He tweeted: "This is a bad situation and Attorney General Jeff Sessions should stop this Rigged Witch Hunt right now, before it continues to stain our country any further".

Trump pointed to the popularity of the two men who faced an easy re-election before being indicted.

While Trump suggested the investigations into the two lawmakers began during the Obama administration, the charges against Collins stem from actions he allegedly took past year - including calls he placed while at the White House for a congressional picnic hosted by Trump.
A few minutes after the tweet on Sessions, Trump added a second tweet attacking former Federal Bureau of Investigation director James B. Comey, asserting that Democrats did not like Comey until Trump fired him in 2017.
AshLee Strong, a spokesperson for House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wisconsin, responded to Trump's tweet by saying the Justice Department "should always remain apolitical, and the speaker has demonstrated he takes these charges seriously". The Dems all hated him, wanted him out, thought he was disgusting - UNTIL I FIRED HIM!
The tweet also amounts to Trump's latest broadside against his attorney general, whose recusal from the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 campaign Trump has refused to forgive and continued to fume about.
