President Donald Trump will be advised by a small group of deeply conservative lawyers, some inside the White House and at least one from outside, on choosing a nominee to the U.S. Supreme Court to replace Justice Anthony Kennedy, said several sources familiar with the process.
They include judges Amy Coney Barrett, 46, the most talked-about woman on the list; Thomas Hardiman, 52, the runner-up to Gorsuch past year; Raymond Kethledge, 51, another former Kennedy clerk; and Amul Thapar, 49, a favorite of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky.
The president originally said he was considering a list of 25 candidates.
It's been less than a week since Justice Anthony Kennedy announced his retirement from the Supreme Court, but already anti-women activists are plotting how best to take advantage of a weakened judicial branch in order to undermine access to safe abortions.
On the brink, Argentina handed a final shot at World Cup salvation
Perhaps a draw can be enough for us but it's not sure. "We are focusing on ourselves, because we're training hard". Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr said he too is a fan of Messi but there is no room for pity at the World Cup .
In interviewing candidates, Trump said he would not discuss whether they would reverse the Roe v. Wade abortion rights decision.
This is a developing story and will be updated. The average age of the circuit court nominations he made in his first year was 49, and for district judges, the average age was 51. The president said two women are among the candidates he's considering among a pool of between five and seven potential nominees.
The road to confirmation for Trump's pick is likely to be a contentious one, as Democrats are expected to push back.
"I'm very proud of Neil Gorsuch", Trump continued.
Who will win today’s Nigeria vs Argentina match?
There is no better opportunity than now for Argentina's players to step up and maybe create a legacy of their own. Argentina has to beat Nigeria in their 3rd and final group match at any cost.
The president did not disclose whom he is considering for the job.
For Republicans' part, they need to balance actively campaigning against the trio in 2018, while courting their votes for the Supreme Court nominee.
Roberts will become the new median justice if Trump nominates someone more conservative than the chief justice. Mike Lee, Utah Republican, who is an attorney but not a judge.
The Democrats - Joe Manchin of West Virginia, Joe Donnelly of IN and Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota - are running for re-election IN November IN states Trump won IN 2016. Neither senator is known for telegraphing how they will cast their votes until right before the vote is called, so the spotlight will likely be on them in the months ahead.
North Korea cancels its annual anti-US rally
In a statement, a U.D. official said the timeline will clarify what the implementation of the summit agreement should look like. Kim Jong Un's decision to ditch the rally is the latest sign that tensions between the U.S. and North Korea are easing.
Collins told reporters Thursday she will be reviewing the nominee's American Bar Association rating, experience and "respect for the rule of law and the Constitution". Many who favor the decision fear that a more conservative replacement for Kennedy, often a swing vote on social issues, could endanger such rights, while Trump's base has hoped he would appoint someone to overturn the decision.
