On Monday, the U.S. military said it killed 49 members of al-Shabaab in three separate airstrike over a period of 12 days.
A USA special-operations forces service member was killed and four others were wounded in Somalia Friday after they came under small-arms and mortar fire from suspected members of an al Qaeda affiliate, the Pentagon said.
American forces under the U.S. military's Africa Command are partnering with African Union Mission to Somalia (Amisom) and Somali national security forces in counterterrorism operations, and have conducted frequent raids and drone strikes on Shabaab training camps throughout Somalia.
The three wounded USA service members and the Kenyan soldier were evacuated by military aircraft and the United States troops are in "stable condition", receiving medical care outside of Somalia, according to one U.S. military official familiar with the operation.

The statement does not identify the attackers but says a larger force of Somalian and Kenyan troops were in an operation against al-Shabab.
