An elderly man and a young girl were killed, with several other people also in "cardiopulmonary arrest", after walls collapsed in a magnitude-6.1 quake that hit Osaka in western Japan on Monday, public broadcaster NHK said.
The Fire and Disaster Management Agency said 307 people were treated for injuries at hospitals.
Meantime, a 5.6 magnitude quake struck near Guanagazapa in Guatemala's Escuintla province just after 8:30 p.m. local time (10:30 p.m ET) Sunday, according to the USGS.
The 6.1 magnitude quake did not trigger a tsunami warning and nuclear plants in the area are operating normally.
A number of train services were suspended, including the "shinkansen" bullet train. A 57-year-old company employee from Itami, Hyogo Prefecture, who was on the train said, "The station staff led the passengers to Osaka Station along the tracks on foot".
