Wayne Rooney has agreed a "deal in principle" to join Major League Soccer side DC United from Premier League club Everton, reports said Thursday.

Rooney, who rejoined his boyhood club Everton from Manchester United in July a year ago, scored 11 goals in the first half of the campaign but has failed to nail down a starting place under manager Sam Allardyce.

"Wayne Rooney has not asked to leave, nor has he had a confrontation with me because we are adults", said Allardyce.

And Rooney didn't waste anytime impressing - scoring 10 goals in 16 Premier League games and even delivering a Goal of the Season contender against West Ham.

Allardyce has played him in a midfield role in the second half of the season in an attempt to inject some creativity into the team but that has impacted on the player's personal form and led to growing frustration.

Rooney moved to Everton from Manchester United in 2017.
