The late former First Lady Barbara Bush's funeral at St. Martin's Episcopal Church in Houston on Saturday was attended by "thousands" of reported guests, including familiar faces of White Houses past and present.
Historian Jon Meacham bestowed the title on Mrs Bush while speaking to the former presidents, ambassadors and mourners inside the nation's largest Episcopal church during her funeral in Houston. He said he would watch the service; it is not usual practice for a sitting president to attend a First Lady's funeral because of security concerns.

Many were seen embracing in the church before the service.
Saturday's service was private, with about 1,500 invited guests in attendance.
