Timothy Cunningham, a 35-year-old Centers For Disease Control and Prevention epidemiologist, vanished after leaving work February 12 complaining he felt unwell; some seven weeks later, his decomposed body was spotted by fishermen in a rugged area along the banks of the Atlanta area's Chattahoochee River, according to officials.
The Atlanta Police Department confirmed to Business Insider that Timothy Cunningham's body was recovered in the Chattahoochee River in northwest Atlanta. One popular rumor was that he was a whistle-blower who had warned others at the CDC that the vaccine used for the flu season had caused some of the high number of deaths from the illness.
"Barring some new information coming forward - and obviously we're checking, you know, we'll check video, we'll check places he might have got access to the river - but barring new information coming forward we may never be able to tell you how he got into the river", O'Connor said.

According to Notre Dame guard Marina Mabrey, Ogunbowale had practiced that fade-away 3-pointer frequently and rarely made it. The ratings for the national title game may have reached an all-time low, but they still won the night overall.
The muddy river spot where the officer was found wasn't too far from his house, but there weren't any roads or running trails nearby, so it's not clear exactly how Cunningham got in there.
Cunningham has been missing since February 12 in Georgia.
There were no signs of foul play and the preliminary cause of death is drowning, the medical examiner said. A report that the 35-year-old was recently unhappy about being passed over for a promotion was later retracted by the CDC.

After Cunningham's disappearance, police offered $10,000 as a reward for any clues regarding Cunningham's whereabouts. At the time of his disappearance, police were baffled by what they called an extremely unusual set of circumstances. "None of those items are missing", O'Connor said.
The article said he was continuing on his family's path into the medical field; his father was an Air Force nurse for 30 years, and his mother worked for the state health department as a program manager.
Cunningham had called his sister that morning and talked to his supervisor about a promotion he didn't receive, FOX5 Atlanta reported. "As a parent, you have indicators when things are just not right with your child, and that was the case". In a statement, the CDC said Cunningham received an "exceptional proficiency promotion" July 1 to the position of commander, an early promotion reflecting his excellence as an employee. Timothy's family stated that he had a conversation with them the day before he vanished, that had left them concerned.
