German fourth seed Alexander Zverev beat Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta 7-6 (4), 6-2 on Friday to set up a Miami Open final showdown against big-serving American John Isner, who earlier overwhelmed Juan Martin del Potro.
Del Potro has been in outstanding form of late and has looked on course for a third successive title in south Florida having triumphed in Acapulco and Indian Wells.
Isner finished with 39 winners to Del Potro's 10, and in forehands only that difference was an astonishing 19-2.
Isner is playing Alexander Zverev in the Miami Open final in chase of his maiden Masters title.
Sessions: Won't Appoint US Special Counsel To Investigate Bias In Russia Probe
The appointment of the Huber was done instead of assigning a Special Prosecutor to the investigation. Attorney John Huber of Utah can do something about it. "We need to have this special counsel".
A fired up Isner yelled "Come on" and pumped his fist when he broke Chung's serve in the first set to race to a 3-1 lead, ending the Korean's streak of 27 consecutive holds of serve. The 14th-seeded Isner cruised through the remainder of the 25-minute opener, in which he fired seven of his 13 aces.
"He's the best young player we have", Isner said of Zverev. The American missed a break point at 4-4 which would have allowed him to serve out the match, and though he had no further opportunities to break, he himself was hardly threatened on serve in his remaining service games. "I played bad from the baseline, but it's not easy against John".
Isner is 0-3 in ATP Masters 1000 finals, per the Associated Press (h/t ESPN.com), but he can turn that mark around if he replicates his performance with his serve in Sunday's match against Zverev. "I think today was even my best match". To be fair, Del Potro has played a lot of tennis in the past month - 16 matches and 38 sets, to be exact.
The two players that feature in Sunday's final had a very turbulent start to the season and would have expected much more from themselves, but have thankfully found a way to turn the results in their favour and show that one week of good tennis can really change their outlook on their tennis.
Windows head Terry Myerson to leave Microsoft
Joe Belfiore is also remaining under the main Windows team, running experiences for PCs and devices . Rajesh Jha , head of the product group, will lead the experiences and devices group.
"As always, I have been feeling tight in all my body for the last couple of weeks, but when I get into the court I love to play tennis", del Potro said. You know, he's coming into this match winning so many matches.
"What I am doing seems to be normal, but it's not a little thing".
The German secured his first top-20 victory of the season in what's been a slow start to the year by his high standards to set up an intriguing tie with Borna Coric. Isner joined Sloane Stephens, who won the women's title Saturday, for the first USA sweep in the event since 2004, when the champions were Roddick and Serena Williams.
Winning the final would have seen him climb to world number three but simply staying fit for the French Open in May is the ultimate goal.
Galaxy Without Dark Matter Confuses Scientists
The galaxy NGC 1052-DF2, or DF2 for short, reportedly has 400 times less dark matter than expected for an object of its size. But after 30-plus years of telescope observations, most researchers do agree on one thing: The universe contains a lot of it.
And Zverev congratulated Isner after the final in a truly classy way.
