And, the heat clearly got to Farah during the race, as he grasped for bottled water handed out by race volunteers.
Farah kept pace with the leaders for much of the race but ended up two minutes and four seconds behind Kipchoge.

But things did not go completely smoothly and as he tried to stick with a fast early pace, Farah became agitated after he picked up the wrong bottle at one drinks station and then knocked his on to the floor at another.
"The drinks stations were confusing", he said.
Farah might have been quicker still but for temperatures of 24C and a problem collecting his drink at the 10km mark which he blamed on staff being too busy taking pictures and led to a lengthy mid-race exchange with motorbike-riding marathon officials. I wasn't wasting energy, I just needed a drink.

Scotsman David Weir was also celebrating after the race, winning the men's wheelchair title for the eighth time. The 38-year-old held off stiff competition from Switzerland's Marcel Hug and the USA's Daniel Romanchuk.
