Thursday: Snow flurries continue, but there will be little accumulation.
The National Weather Service Wednesday afternoon extended its winter storm warning southeast to include Providence, Coventry and West Greenwich, saying the area is now likely to get 4 to 8 inches of snow. This includes Albany, Hartford, Portland and the Boston metro area.
In this zone the storm will mainly produce snow, and the commute home Wednesday will be hard. In general, the magnitude of the winds and coastal flooding from Quinn will not rise to the level we saw in Riley. Pennsylvania and NY banned big rigs from some major highways.
New: Winter Storm Warning Issued for Some Ahead of Wednesday Storm
Hundreds of flights across the region had been cancelled even before the snow started falling Wednesday due to the dire weather forecasts. It also rattled portions of eastern Pennsylvania and southern New Jersey.
The heaviest snowfall is expected in Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. An initial wave of moisture worked in from our west as some light rain showers and sleet mixed with and changed over to some light snow.
Temperature are expected to be below the freezing mark overnight, which means that any melted snow may freeze over, which could make for a slippery Thursday morning commute. Northern York, western Cumberland and southern Oxford counties could see higher amounts. Otherwise, there is very high confidence that this storm will make travel hard or almost impossible at times late Wednesday morning and into the afternoon across much of eastern Pennsylvania and northern New Jersey, basically from near Philadelphia, west and north to the NY state border and beyond.
"Thundersnow is also a possibility as this system will undergo rapid intensification as well", the Weather Service says. She was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at Jersey Shore University Medical Center. Unlike the last one which featured strong damaging wind gusts as its main course, this coastal storm should have less wind, but quite a bit more snow, certainly for areas outside of the Poconos.
Technical glitch hits Sydney airport, delaying flights
It affected systems including the airport's CCTV, meaning passengers could not be screened for about two hours. The Airport's Sally Fielke says the issue has been fixed by airport technicians and the software provider.
The Amtrak Downeaster posted a message on its website Wednesday afternoon that said the passenger train service between Brunswick, Portland and Boston planned to operate "full service through the winter storm today and tomorrow". The driver reportedly escaped without injury.
Crocker said he is "pretty concerned" about this new storm. Officials have not yet released their identity.
"Heavy Snow + lightning and thunder".
Northeast winds on Wednesday will become northwest on Wednesday night.
'Black Panther' is king for third straight weekend
FOX's " Red Sparrow " didn't beat Black Panther , but the film did land in second-place after a $17M debut across 3,056 locations. With how it's holding, Black Panther should become just the seventh film in history to break $600 million at the US box office .
But the anticipated six to eight inches of snow didn't stop out-of-towners from enjoying their visit to the city of Brotherly Love.
While 40-mph wind gusts are certainly strong, they're nowhere near the magnitude of the gusts observed during Riley.
A Winter Storm Watch remains in effect from Wednesday afternoon through Thursday evening.
