The Ecuadorean government of President Lenin Moreno has left Wikileaks founder Julian Assange without access to the internet at their embassy in London, it was reported Wednesday.

Ecuador said that the WikiLeaks founder - who has been holed up in its London embassy since 2012 - had broken a 2017 agreement by disputing the UK's claim that Russian Federation poisoned former double agent Sergei Skripal and his daughter on March 4.

As part of an agreement between Mr Assange and the Ecuadorean government, he is not permitted to send any messages that could interfere with the South American nation's relations with other countries.

Assange compared the decision to the one made by Nazi Germany when it arrested Catalan leader Lluis Companys and handed him over to the regime of Spanish dictator Francisco Franco. He has hidden away claiming he could be extradited to the United States to face charges over WikiLeaks revelations, but he is also wanted by British police for skipping bail.

The Australian computer programmer has been living in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London since 2012 in an effort to avoid extraditing to Sweden. Swedish authorities have since shelved their investigation on grounds they could not get access to him. But he remains in self-imposed exile due to fears he could still be arrested by United Kingdom police for breaching bail conditions.

Earlier this year, Assange lost two legal bids to quash a British arrest warrant that was issued after he skipped bail and fled to the embassy.

"Only extraordinary pressure from the U.S. and the Spanish governments can explain why Ecuador's authorities should have taken such appalling steps in isolating Julian", they wrote in a statement. He has consequently been stripped of internet access and no longer allowed to meet visitors in the embassy.

The statement did not say which communication system it had suspended but in 2016, Ecuador restricted his internet access for commenting on USA internal affairs. In the summer of 2016, the anti-secrecy site published hacked emails from the Democratic National Committee.
