Amazon explains that the ads are being removed in order to "ensure customers can easily use features such as the phone's mobile unlock technologies like facial recognition and fingerprint sensors, as well as be able to personalize device lockscreens with photos or wallpapers". Now, with a fresh software update that'll begin rolling out tomorrow, you won't see any ads on the lock screen at all. Of course, you'll still be left with Amazon's Android apps, a dedicated widget, and a few notifications that all show adverts, but at least you won't be greeted by them every time you check your phone. The retailer states that the change is meant to make the user experience better, by letting owners use the increasingly more prevalent fingerprint readers and unlocking features that bypass the lock screen. Ads that hijack your lock screen can sometimes preclude that. Essentially, it means that Amazon Prime members can now buy certain Android phones for a lower cost than nearly anywhere else, without the compromise of dealing with Amazon ads on their lock screens.
However, customers will have to bear with Amazon's pre-installed apps which include Prime Music and Prime Video.

O'Driscoll tweeted: "Just because we won with an INCREDIBLE 42 METER drop goal that HIA decision shouldn't get swept under the carpet".
Showing advertisements on devices is one way that Amazon reduced the cost of a device for the end user, which extended to the Prime Exclusive program that started back in 2016. Now that many phones have face recognition and fingerprint readers, Amazon wants to be sure those features work well.
Phones purchased through the program still come pre-loaded with Amazon apps.

Current Prime Exclusive phones will receive an update that removes lock screen ads. We may be provided this information directly from the device or its manufacturer. For now, this step seems like a band-aid, and Amazon will need a more permanent solution in the future.
