The U.S. State Department is warning Americans about traveling to five Mexican states.
Days after Mexico logged its unsafe time in history, the United States asked its citizens to not tour five intensity filled Mexican states, putting them in the very risk class as war-torn Somalia, Afghanistan, and Syria.
A level three warning was issued to 11 other states in Mexico, asking travelers to reconsider travel plans.
Officials cite continued murder, kidnaping and carjacking related to gang activity as the primary reason for the warning.

Mexico as a whole has a level 2 rating, meaning Americans should "exercise increased caution" because of concerns about crime.
Most of northern Mexico, including the border states of Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo Leon and Sonora as well as Durango, Zacatecas and San Luis Potosi, are under level 3 warnings.
The State Department has created a color-coded map of Mexico that breaks down each state with warnings specific to those areas.
Meanwhile, the advisory also issued warnings to US government officials, prohibiting them from travelling to certain areas of the "do not travel" states or in some cases, the entirety of the state.

The government's Mexico Tourism Board said in a statement reported by Fox News, "Mexico's major global tourism destinations have been explicitly listed as having no travel restrictions". In the USA, it was five. At least two resorts - Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo and Acapulco - were in Gurrero.
The U.S. government did note its employees are allowed to go to the seaside city of Manzanillo, Colima.
For Baja California Sur, outlined in yellow - the color code for Level 2 - the State Department suggested travelers "exercise caution in the state capital of La Paz" and said that the state registered its highest homicide rate since 1997. The highest homicide rate in Mexico is in Colima due to the growth of a new cartel, where there are 83.3 killings per 100,000 people.
The tourism secretariat issued a statement exempting Mexico's five main tourist destinations - Cancún, the Mayan Riviera, Los Cabos, Puerto Vallarta-Riviera Nayarit and Mexico City -from the USA restrictions.
