Democratic Senator Dianne Feinstein of California released a transcript of the Judiciary Committee's interview with a founder of Fusion GPS - the firm that produced a dossier that exposed the alleged efforts by the Russian government to help the Trump campaign.
The Washington research firm has been under attack by the White House and Republican lawmakers over the dossier, which is central to investigations in Congress and by a federal special counsel into allegations that Russian Federation interfered in the 2016 presidential election to help Trump win.
"The innuendo and misinformation circulating about the transcript are part of a deeply troubling effort to undermine the investigation into potential collusion and obstruction of justice", Feinstein said in a statement.
Feinstein said she released the transcript to set the record straight.

Christopher Steele told the political research firm that hired him, Fusion GPS, that what he uncovered from Russian sources was serious enough to bring to the attention of USA law enforcement authorities, according to a transcript released on Tuesday.
Mr Trump has repeatedly denied colluding with Russian Federation during the campaign, and called the entire investigation a "witch hunt". His firm paid former British intelligence officer Christopher Steele to compile the Trump-Russia dossier.
In their letter, Whitehouse and Blumenthal echoed complaints by Fusion GPS that Simpson's testimony has been selectively leaked, and they rejected the idea the company's work was the basis for the start of the investigation into Russia's interference with the 2016 election.
Ms. Feinstein moved to do so without the committee's Republican chairman, Senator Charles E. Grassley of Iowa, nearly certainly escalating partisan tensions on the committee. "Her action undermines the integrity of the committee's oversight work and jeopardizes its ability to secure candid voluntary testimony relating to the independent recollection of future witnesses, " said the spokesman, Taylor Foy.

According to the transcript, Mr Simpson told the committee that Mr Steele had reported his suspicions about the Trump campaign to the Federal Bureau of Investigation in July in 2016.
Senate judiciary committee chairman Chuck Grassley and Lindsey Graham said they had passed a classified memorandum to the DoJ relating to communications between Mr Steele and "multiple U.S. news outlets".
In an angry statement, Grassley said that "neither the special counsel, nor any other congressional committee, has released transcripts of private interviews in the course of their investigations".
"Fusion GPS commends Sen". That decision marks the most serious break yet in the cooperative relationship she has had with the Republican chairman of the committee, Sen.

Simpson told investigators that Steele is "basically a Boy Scout", saying he has worked with Steele on and off since 2009 and he knew him to be "a person who delivered quality work in very appropriate ways". Chuck Grassley, issued a criminal referral last week for Steele, alleging the committee had reason to believe that the former spy had lied to authorities about his conversations with the press regarding the dossier.
